ABUJA – Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have reportedly rearrested Bello Bodejo, National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, shortly after he was released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Bodejo was reportedly taken into custody by DSS personnel on Friday as he left the EFCC headquarters in Abuja, where his lawyers had gone to secure his release after the conditions attached to his bail were reportedly fulfilled.
His wife, Hajiya Hauwa Bodejo, expressed concern and frustration over the development, questioning why her husband was taken away again after the bail requirements had been completed.
According to her, DSS operatives had been positioned around the EFCC premises for several hours before Bodejo was eventually released.
She said the EFCC had contacted Bodejo’s legal team on Thursday night and instructed them to come to the facility on Friday for his release. The lawyers were initially expected to come with court officials but were later informed that their presence was unnecessary because the documents showing that the bail conditions had been perfected had already been submitted.
Hauwa said the family subsequently arrived at the EFCC headquarters and saw Bodejo being brought out of detention.
However, she alleged that as they were preparing to leave the premises, DSS operatives moved toward him and took him away in three vehicles.
The development has also raised fresh concerns about Bodejo’s health.
His wife alleged that his health had worsened during his detention and that attempts by his personal doctor to see him had repeatedly been unsuccessful.
She further stated that Bodejo had spent nearly three months in detention, questioning the basis for his continued custody after the court granted him bail and the required conditions were reportedly met.
As of the time of the report, the DSS had not publicly stated why its operatives rearrested Bodejo after his release from EFCC custody.
