#FCT Agency Seeks EFCC’s Intervention in Tackling Land Grabbing

The Abuja Metropolitan Management Council’s Department of Development Control has urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to assist in addressing the increasing activities of land grabbers in the Federal Capital Territory. This plea was made during a courtesy visit to the EFCC’s Abuja corporate headquarters on February 15, 2024, led by the Director of the department, Mukhtar Usman Galadima, along with other senior officials.

Galadima highlighted the rise in land grabbing and unauthorized development, describing it as a well-coordinated syndicate that the department alone cannot effectively combat. He emphasized the need for collaboration with the EFCC, as the leading entity in the fight against economic and financial crimes.

In response, EFCC’s Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, conveyed the Commission’s commitment to addressing the issue. He acknowledged the alarming trend of forgery of land documents and impersonation of original allottees, especially within the FCT. Olukoyede mentioned the existence of a Property and Land Fraud Unit dedicated to real estate matters, stationed strategically at the FCDA. He assured the delegation of the Commission’s readiness to intensify efforts in any area within its mandate.

EFCC’s Director of Operations, Abdulkarim Chukkol, encouraged the delegation to provide intelligence that would aid the Commission in taking decisive actions against real estate fraudsters. He reiterated the Commission’s openness to intervention and collaboration in the fight against these criminal activities.
