FG SEALS AIRBUS DEAL TO TRAIN AVIATION CREW, BOOST MRO CAPACITY

The Federal Government has signed a major partnership with Airbus aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s aviation industry and positioning it for long-term growth.

The agreement, formalised through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), was signed during a working visit by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to Airbus headquarters in Toulouse, France.

According to officials, the deal is a strategic move to accelerate the development of Nigeria’s aviation ecosystem by improving infrastructure, building human capacity, and enhancing technical expertise across the sector.

Speaking at the signing, Keyamo described the partnership as a critical step toward modernising the country’s aviation landscape.

“We are deeply honoured to engage in a long-term partnership with Airbus. This agreement aligns with the Federal Government’s commitment to accelerating the development of Nigeria’s aeronautical ecosystem,” he said.

On his part, Gabriel Semelas noted that the collaboration reflects a shared goal of expanding and strengthening civil aviation in Nigeria and across the region.

Under the agreement, Airbus will provide technical support in key areas such as aviation market intelligence, training for pilots and maintenance personnel, and advisory services on maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations.

The partnership will also explore Nigeria’s potential in sustainable aviation fuel production while investing in the training of the next generation of aviation professionals.

Officials say the initiative builds on Airbus’ longstanding presence in Africa and is expected to unlock new opportunities in job creation, innovation, and economic growth.

With this move, the government aims to position Nigeria as a leading aviation hub on the continent, leveraging global expertise and local talent to drive the sector forward.
