FG’S ₦50,000 CASH SUPPORT: OPAY REVEALS HOW NIGERIANS CAN CHECK ELIGIBILITY, WARNS AGAINST SCAMMERS

Popular financial technology company, OPay, has explained how Nigerians can check whether they qualify for the Federal Government’s ₦50,000 cash support programme for vulnerable citizens.

The company said eligible customers would receive a pop-up notification directly on the homepage of their OPay mobile application, providing instructions on how to proceed with the payment process.

In a statement shared on its official X account on Tuesday, November 3, OPay clarified that customers who do not see the notification on their app are not eligible for the intervention.

The company also stressed that it does not determine who qualifies for the government’s financial assistance.

According to OPay, eligible customers should click on the notification displayed on their app homepage and follow the instructions provided.

Customers seeking further clarification were advised to contact the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI) helpline on 0700-022-2222.

HOW TO CHECK ELIGIBILITY THROUGH OPAY

OPay advised customers to use its official mobile application to confirm their eligibility.

Customers can also check through the USSD code *955*20#.

The company explained that the absence of the eligibility notification means the customer has not been selected for the intervention.

OPAY WARNS NIGERIANS AGAINST SCAMS

The fintech company has warned Nigerians to remain vigilant against fraudsters attempting to exploit public interest in the government’s cash support programme.

OPay emphasised that it would never request customers’ Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) or One-Time Passwords (OTPs) to process payments under the intervention.

It also warned customers against paying individuals or agents who promise to secure their selection or facilitate access to the funds.

The company urged Nigerians to avoid suspicious links and rely only on verified communication channels.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE FG’S ₦50,000 CASH SUPPORT

The Federal Government recently announced the commencement of financial assistance under the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), an initiative designed to support vulnerable households amid rising food prices and the increasing cost of essential goods.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, announced the intervention on October 30, 2026.

Under the programme, eligible beneficiaries are expected to receive ₦50,000, with payments facilitated through licensed digital financial service providers.

Other approved providers and their USSD codes include:

The government has maintained that beneficiaries do not need to submit applications, pay registration fees or engage agents to access the intervention.

Selected beneficiaries are expected to receive SMS notifications requesting their consent before payments are processed into their bank accounts or mobile wallets.

The government has also cautioned Nigerians against disclosing sensitive banking information, particularly their PINs and Bank Verification Numbers (BVNs), to unauthorised individuals.

For enquiries or clarification, Nigerians can contact the NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222.
