Former Kano State governor Ibrahim Shekarau has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), bringing an end to his latest stint with the opposition party.

He announced his decision on Sunday at his residence on Mundubawa Avenue in Kano after holding several consultations with close political allies and members of his Shura group. In a resignation letter dated April 19 and addressed to the PDP chairman of Giginyu Ward in Nassarawa Local Government Area, Shekarau confirmed that his departure takes immediate effect.

In the letter, he stated that his decision was reached after extensive discussions within his political circle, with plans to continue his political journey under a different platform. He also expressed appreciation to party leaders for their support and offered prayers for continued guidance in their roles.

Copies of the letter were sent to party officials at both the local government and state levels, signaling a formal and structured exit from the party.

Developments at his residence, including the display of APC campaign materials, further suggest his move to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This comes shortly after an invitation from the party’s national leadership to join its ranks.

Shekarau, who governed Kano State from 2003 to 2011, has had a long political history, including his time with the now-defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). He later joined the PDP in 2014 following the merger that led to the formation of the APC.
