The Nigerian government has officially declared the sale of the Falcon 900B aircraft, a component of the presidential air fleet. This announcement was made through a post by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) via X on the evening of December 4, 2023. headlinenews.news reports
The NAF has invited interested individuals to submit their bids for the purchase of the aircraft. According to the provided information, the decision to sell the aircraft received approval from the Federal Government.
The flier read, “The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the sale of Falcon 900B aircraft owned by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF). In compliance with provisions of the public procurement Act 2007, the NAF hereby invites all interested parties to submit bids for the purchase of the aircraft. Bids can be submitted either by email or physically.”
For email submissions, bids are to be password protected and sent to dproc(at)airforce.mil.ng, with the password sent separately to dproc2(at)airforce.miI.ng. For physical submissions, quotations should be enclosed in a sealed envelope, bearing the name and address of the interested company/entity, along with the description and reference to the request. The envelope must also have the statement, ‘DO NOT OPEN BEFORE 24 DECEMBER 2023.’ The announcement emphasized that bids would be processed immediately after the submission deadline.
Although the NAF did not specify the reasons behind the decision to sell the aircraft, it is believed to be a strategic move to reduce the size of the fleet. In 2016, the government previously advertised the sale of two other aircraft – Falcon 7x and Hawker 4000. However, the sale process encountered challenges, with preferred bidders initially agreeing to a projected sales figure of $24 million but later seeking to renegotiate at $11 million.
In a subsequent development, the Hawker 4000 aircraft was declared for sale in September 2020, although confirmation of its actual sale by the Presidency is pending.
