GOVERNOR FACES ALLEGATIONS OF DIVERTING PUBLIC FUNDS TO FINANCE VOTE-BUYING

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke over his directive to rehabilitate the Ola-Iya flyover bridge, alleging that the proposed project is aimed at diverting public funds ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

Governor Adeleke recently directed the Ministry of Works to inspect, clean and carry out rehabilitation work on the bridge.

Reacting to the decision, the Head of the Publicity Committee of the APC Governorship Campaign Council, Oluremi Omowaiye, claimed the project was unnecessary, arguing that the flyover, which was constructed during the administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, remains structurally sound.

According to the APC, the timing of the rehabilitation raises concerns, with the party alleging that the project is intended to create funds for political activities ahead of the governorship poll.

Omowaiye also accused the state government of awarding major road contracts to companies that allegedly lack engineering expertise, questioning the transparency of the contracting process.

He maintained that public officials must be accountable for the management of state resources and stated that any allegations of financial misconduct should be investigated by the appropriate anti-corruption agencies.
