Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has announced plans to remodel and upgrade all 255 Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) in the state to Level 2 status, marking a significant step in his administration’s health sector reforms.
Speaking at the distribution of free essential drugs and hospital equipment for PHCs in the 23 local government areas, held in Kachia on Saturday, the governor outlined the services the upgraded centers would provide. These include managing uncomplicated diabetes and hypertension, resuscitation of severe asthma, assisted delivery, and other critical healthcare services.
A Vision for Top-Tier Healthcare
Governor Sani emphasized his goal to make Kaduna State a leader in healthcare delivery among subnational governments. He highlighted the state’s recent recognition as the best-performing state in Primary Health Care in the North-West zone during the PHC Leadership Challenge in Abuja.
“Our PHCs are already the best in the country, but we aim higher,” Sani said, adding that the centers will be digitized and connected to General Hospitals across the state to ensure comprehensive healthcare access.
Support for Vulnerable Groups
The governor revealed that free drugs would be provided to children aged one to five, pregnant women, and the underprivileged. He warned against the misuse or theft of medical supplies, urging traditional rulers, community leaders, and healthcare workers to monitor the distribution and usage of these resources.
Community Engagement and Appreciation
Dr. Manzo Maigari, Chairman of Kachia Local Government, welcomed the initiative, praising Governor Sani as a “son of the soil” who has shown a deep commitment to the people’s welfare.
Health Commissioner Hajiya Umma K. Ahmad described the event as a milestone in the administration’s efforts to strengthen primary healthcare and revitalize the state’s health sector.
The governor’s promise to modernize Kaduna’s healthcare infrastructure and provide essential services aligns with his administration’s broader mission to improve public health outcomes and enhance the quality of life for residents.
