The governorship ambition of Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, has gained momentum after receiving strong backing from prominent figures within the All Progressives Congress (APC) during a series of political consultations in Lagos.

Key party stakeholders, including Lagos APC Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Mudashiru Obasa, and Senator Ganiyu Solomon, expressed support for Hamzat’s political aspiration, alongside other influential party members.
The endorsements emerged during Hamzat’s visits to party leaders across the state, beginning with a stop at the APC secretariat on Acme Road, Ogba, where he met members of the State Working Committee led by Ojelabi. He also held separate consultations with Obasa and Solomon at their respective residences.

During the engagements, Hamzat emphasised the importance of Lagos to Nigeria’s political and economic stability, stressing the need for continuity in governance and party dominance.
He stated that the state must maintain strong political cohesion ahead of future elections, adding that past electoral challenges should not be repeated. He also called for a decisive victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next election cycle and sustained success for the APC in Lagos.
Hamzat further accused opposition elements of attempting to undermine the achievements of the current administration, arguing that such efforts stem from their inability to secure electoral victory.

In response, APC leaders present at the meetings expressed confidence in Hamzat’s leadership capacity. Ojelabi assured him of full party support, describing him as competent and humble.
Former Minister Musiliu Obanikoro also praised Hamzat, saying his leadership would ensure continued development and growth in Lagos State. He expressed optimism that the state would maintain its upward trajectory under his guidance.

Speaker Mudashiru Obasa went further, suggesting that Hamzat’s candidacy within the party was already effectively settled, while Senator Ganiyu Solomon encouraged voter mobilisation efforts, particularly in Mushin, ahead of the next elections.
