Lagos State Deputy Governor and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 election, Obafemi Hamzat, has unveiled key priorities that would shape his administration if elected, promising to focus on improving residents’ quality of life through better security, infrastructure, housing, healthcare, transportation and environmental management.
Speaking during an interview, Hamzat said the primary responsibility of a governor is to ensure that government policies and projects directly improve the lives of citizens. He stressed that every developmental initiative should have a measurable impact on the welfare of Lagos residents.
He pledged to build on the achievements of the current administration by completing ongoing projects, particularly the Blue and Red Rail Lines, while continuing the implementation of the state’s long-term development master plan.
Hamzat disclosed that his manifesto prioritises expanding access to clean water, strengthening security through technology and community policing, improving healthcare, reforming education, boosting transportation and making Lagos a more organised and livable city.
Addressing environmental challenges, he outlined plans to tackle flooding by enforcing physical planning regulations, maintaining drainage systems and promoting better waste management. He also proposed expanding waste recycling and conversion projects to reduce dependence on landfills.
On housing, Hamzat said his administration would promote affordable housing through sustainable mortgage schemes and increased collaboration with financial institutions, while also working to improve living conditions in underserved communities without displacing vulnerable residents unfairly.
He also pledged to strengthen agriculture through partnerships with other states to improve food supply, support farmers with guaranteed off-take arrangements and develop logistics infrastructure that would enhance food distribution across Lagos.
Speaking on the healthcare sector, Hamzat said the state would invest in training more doctors, nurses and other medical professionals to address the impact of migration on the health workforce.
The APC candidate further promised to deepen collaboration with local governments, improve building safety through stricter regulations, modernise public transportation, enhance waste management and maintain law and order across the state.
He also expressed confidence in the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying ongoing economic reforms and infrastructure projects would position Nigeria for long-term growth.
