‘He Was Among Finest Of Men,’ Tinubu Mourns Christopher Kolade

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Nigeria’s former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dr. Christopher Kolade, describing him as one of the “finest of men.”

Dr. Kolade, a renowned broadcaster, diplomat, and corporate leader, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 92.

In a statement released on Thursday by the Presidency, Tinubu paid glowing tribute to the late elder statesman, acknowledging his lifetime of service, integrity, and contributions to national development.

“Dr. Kolade was a broadcaster and boardroom guru, one of Nigeria’s intellectual treasures,” the President said. “He was exceptionally brilliant, statesmanly, diligent, and had unimpeachable integrity.”

Tinubu highlighted Kolade’s distinguished career — from serving as Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation and Chief Executive/Chairman of Cadbury Nigeria Plc, to his role as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

He also commended Kolade’s humanitarian efforts through the Christopher Kolade Foundation, particularly his advocacy for sickle cell patients.

“He served Nigeria dutifully with honesty and great dedication,” Tinubu added. “Though his passing is agonising, we must celebrate his life and legacy. He will remain an inspiration for generations to come.”

The President prayed that God grants eternal rest to Dr. Kolade, whom he described as “a true Nigerian — selfless, resilient, and devoted to the service of humanity.”
