A thanksgiving service filled with joy and gratitude was held in Ogbomoso after the release of Mrs. Rachael Alamu, the principal of Ahoro Esinle School in Oyo State, who was recently rescued from captivity.
During the service, her husband, Professor Alamu, was seen dancing with members of the congregation as they sang songs of praise, celebrating the safe return of his wife and the other victims after spending weeks in the hands of terrorists.
Before the rescue, Professor Alamu had publicly appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde and President Bola Tinubu in an emotional video, asking for urgent intervention to secure the release of his wife and the other abducted victims.
Mrs. Alamu was kidnapped alongside pupils and teachers of Ahoro Esinle School in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15, 2026, when armed men attacked the school.
The victims remained in captivity for 56 days before security operatives successfully rescued them. The Federal Government confirmed their release, stating that all the abducted pupils and teachers had been freed through the efforts of security agencies.
Governor Seyi Makinde later visited the rescued victims at the Military Hospital in Ibadan, where they are currently receiving medical care and psychosocial support. They are expected to be officially handed over to the Oyo State Government before reuniting with their families.
The thanksgiving service marked one of the family’s first public celebrations since Mrs. Alamu regained her freedom. The emotional moment has generated widespread reactions, with many Nigerians expressing gratitude over the successful rescue, while parents of the rescued pupils also shared their excitement as they look forward to welcoming their children back home.
