Arsène Wenger has come out strongly in defence of Kylian Mbappé, insisting the forward has been unfairly made a scapegoat amid what he described as a difficult second season at Real Madrid.

Wenger argued that criticism of Mbappé has been exaggerated, suggesting that the current Madrid squad does not possess the same depth of world-class talent seen in previous generations, which has placed extra pressure on the French star.
According to him, football often demands a figure to blame when results dip, and Mbappé has unfortunately become that figure in recent months. Despite the criticism and reports of tension, the striker has still maintained an impressive scoring record, netting 42 goals across all competitions.

The former manager also expressed confidence that Mbappé will bounce back strongly on the international stage, especially at the upcoming World Cup in North America. He noted that the forward’s limited minutes and injury breaks at club level could actually work in his favour by keeping him physically fresh for the tournament.

Wenger further highlighted that while many top international players may arrive exhausted after demanding club seasons, Mbappé is expected to be in peak condition for France national football team, giving them a potential edge.

Looking ahead to the competition, Wenger tipped France as strong favourites to lift the trophy once again, praising their depth, athleticism, and the experience of manager Didier Deschamps. He also noted that their physical intensity often becomes decisive in the final stages of matches.
France will begin their World Cup campaign against Senegal at MetLife Stadium before facing Iraq and Norway in their group fixtures.
