INEC DOCUMENTS: TINUBU LISTS ONLY UNIVERSITY QUALIFICATION, LEAVES PRIMARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION SECTIONS BLANK

Documents released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Saturday have shown that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu listed only his university qualification in the educational section of his EC9 nomination form for the 2027 presidential election.

The form showed that the President left the spaces provided for his primary and secondary school qualifications blank, while listing his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Business Administration from Chicago State University, United States, obtained in 1979.

The documents were part of the nomination papers submitted by candidates seeking to contest the January 16, 2027 presidential election and were published by INEC in line with its revised timetable and schedule of activities.

Tinubu attached copies of his university degree certificate and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate as supporting documents to his nomination form.

In the personal details section, the President stated that he was born on March 29, 1952, in Lagos and listed his occupation as “Politician.”

His employment history showed that he worked with Mobil Nigeria Limited from 1983 to 1992, served as Governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007, and has been with the Federal Government of Nigeria since 2023.

The documents also indicated that Tinubu declared he had never been dismissed from public service.

Meanwhile, the documents submitted by the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, showed a more detailed educational history.

Obi described himself as a “public servant” and listed his education from primary school to university level.

He stated that he attended St. Augustine’s Primary School, Anambra, where he completed his primary education in 1973, before proceeding to Christ the King College (CKC), Onitsha, where he obtained his West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1978.

The former Anambra State governor also listed his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Philosophy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, obtained in 1984. His attached certificate showed that he graduated with Second Class Honours (Lower Division).

Obi also attached his NYSC certificate, showing that he completed his national service between May 1985 and March 1986.

However, the section for his previous working experience in the EC9 form was left blank, while he declared that he had never been dismissed from public service.
