The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the names and personal details of their presidential and National Assembly candidates for the 2027 general elections by three days.

The new deadline is now set for midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, instead of the original deadline of Saturday, July 11.
In a statement issued by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, INEC said the extension followed a request from the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), which appealed on behalf of political parties that were unable to complete the submission process within the initial timeframe.

The commission explained that the decision was made to encourage greater participation in the electoral process while remaining in line with legal requirements.
INEC also urged all political parties to use the additional time to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates through its online nomination portal before the new deadline expires.

The extension comes after several political parties reported technical and administrative challenges that prevented them from completing their submissions on time. Prior to the announcement, the electoral body had maintained that the original July 11 deadline would not be extended.
