INSECURITY: NIGERIAN ARMY PUSHES FOR STRONGER INTER-AGENCY COOPERATION TO TACKLE THREATS

The Nigerian Army has called for enhanced collaboration among security agencies as part of efforts to address the country’s evolving security challenges, including insurgency, terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and militancy.

The appeal was made on Monday by the Commander of the 4 Special Forces Command, Doma, Nasarawa State, Major General Olurotimi Awolo, during the opening of the week-long Command Operations Planning Cadre 2026.

Awolo said Nigeria’s security threats vary across regions and require coordinated, specialised responses backed by effective inter-agency cooperation.

He explained that the training programme was designed to equip personnel within the command’s Area of Responsibility with the operational skills needed to respond effectively to emerging security threats.

The cadre, themed “Tactical Leadership Capacity Building and Multi-Agency Approach to Asymmetric Operations in Joint Operations Area,” brings together personnel from the Armed Forces and other security agencies.

According to the commander, the inclusion of multiple security agencies in the training reflects the growing need for unified action in tackling complex security issues across the country.

“The essence of including other security agencies in this training programme was necessitated by the notion that confronting the numerous security challenges across the nation requires integrated collaboration among all relevant stakeholders,” he said.

He added that the initiative aligns with the vision of the Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, aimed at building a more professional, adaptable, and combat-ready force capable of operating within joint security frameworks.

Awolo urged participants to fully engage with the lectures and sessions, particularly those focused on inter-agency coordination and logistics planning in non-combat operations.

He said the knowledge gained would be valuable for officers deployed to different operational theatres across the country.

The commander also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff for his support, noting that the programme was made possible through his approval and funding.

He encouraged participants to apply the lessons learned in addressing real-time operational challenges in the field, declaring the cadre officially open.
