INSECURITY: NIGERIAN POLICE KILL 2 KIDNAPPERS, RECOVER N2.2M RANSOM CASH IN OGUN STATE.

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have killed two suspected kidnappers and recovered ransom proceeds during a series of intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks in the state.

The operation, carried out by the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, also led to the arrest of two other suspects, including an alleged gang leader identified as Seriki Mohammed Abdullahi. Police said the arrests followed extensive investigations into a recent kidnapping incident in the Iperin area of Atan-Ijebu.

According to the police, the victims had earlier regained their freedom after being released by their abductors. Following the release, investigators intensified efforts to track down members of the gang responsible for the crime. Acting on credible intelligence, security operatives raided a suspected hideout along the Ijebu-Ode/Ibadan Road axis, where they came under attack from the suspects.

A gun battle reportedly ensued, resulting in the death of two suspected kidnappers, while two others were taken into custody. Police also recovered cash believed to be part of ransom payments made by victims’ families, along with other items linked to the gang’s operations.

The Ogun State Police Command said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing criminal elements and ensuring the safety of residents.

Police urged members of the public to continue providing timely information that could assist security agencies in preventing and solving crimes, stressing that collaboration between citizens and law enforcement remains vital in the fight against kidnapping and other forms of criminality.
