The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has taken journalists on an inspection tour of a large-scale methamphetamine production facility uncovered and dismantled in Ogun State.
The industrial laboratory, located in a remote forest area in Ijebu Ode, was reportedly valued at about N480 billion when it was discovered by the agency in May.
During the inspection, suspects linked to the facility were brought to the scene by officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service before appearing before a special court session held at the location.
The proceedings were conducted by Justice Musa Kakaki of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, with the judge, lawyers and other officials examining the facility and reviewing exhibits recovered from the site.
Items displayed during the inspection included industrial cooking cylinders, chemical storage tanks and drums, caustic soda, measuring equipment, concrete ovens, welding helmets, nose masks and silicone sealants believed to have been used in the production process.
Speaking after the court session, NDLEA’s Head Prosecutor in Lagos, Adekunle Adebajo, said some of the recovered materials had already been admitted as exhibits during previous proceedings, while additional items would be presented before the court when the hearing continues.
Adebajo explained that the agency had previously applied for approval to dismantle the illegal methamphetamine plant permanently, noting that further steps would depend on the court’s decision.
The prosecutor added that remaining exhibits from the facility would be presented during the next stage of the proceedings.
