The Plateau State chapter of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has confirmed that at least four Muslims were killed and 10 others remain missing following the deadly Palm Sunday attack in Anguwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area.

JNI Secretary Salim Umar revealed the findings after what the organisation described as a thorough investigation. Contrary to earlier reports suggesting only Christians were targeted, the investigation showed that Muslims also suffered casualties.

“Following reports from Muslim communities, we confirm the death of four Muslims and that ten others are still missing,” Umar said. He added that some bodies had been identified by relatives at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), while the missing persons’ whereabouts remain unknown. Two survivors are receiving treatment at JUTH.

Umar extended condolences to the families of the victims and called for calm among residents, acknowledging the efforts of state authorities and security agencies to control the situation.
Earlier reports indicated that at least 26 people were killed in the attack, with the toll expected to rise as more victims are accounted for. Eyewitnesses said the attackers, allegedly dressed in military uniforms, stormed the community on Sunday evening and opened fire indiscriminately, including in the market area.
The attack prompted protests on Monday, with residents defying a government-imposed curfew to demand urgent action and accountability. Security forces later dispersed the protests, further heightening tensions in the area.
