Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has suggested that the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State’s Orire Local Government Area may have been politically motivated.
Speaking during a television interview on Monday, Fayose raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding the incident and questioned the response of the Oyo State government. He alleged that the kidnapping could have been used as a tool to undermine the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Fayose, who commended Tinubu for his handling of national affairs since assuming office, said the timing of the incident and subsequent actions taken by the state government left room for suspicion.
According to him, President Tinubu is facing a situation similar to what former President Goodluck Jonathan experienced, where insecurity issues were allegedly exploited for political purposes.
The former governor argued that the state government’s initial reaction to the abduction was inadequate, noting that attention appeared to be focused elsewhere before efforts were made to engage with the victims’ families.
While acknowledging that his view may be disputed, Fayose maintained that there were reasons to question whether elements within the state government played a role in creating a narrative capable of discrediting the President.
