‘JOIN ANOTHER PARTY OR FACE SANCTION’ — AJIBOLA BASIRU WARNS FAYEMI AGAINST ‘DEMARKETING’ APC

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has issued a warning to former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, over his recent public comments about the ruling party, cautioning that disciplinary action could be taken if he continues.

Basiru’s reaction followed Fayemi’s interview in which the former governor criticised the APC, saying the party had strayed from its founding principles and was losing internal ideological direction.

Fayemi also expressed concern over the rising culture of endorsements and consensus arrangements within the party, warning that it could lead to internal conflict ahead of future elections. He further argued that the growing tendency for members to seek political favour from the presidency was unhealthy for party democracy.

In response, Basiru rejected Fayemi’s remarks, stating that anyone dissatisfied with the party’s direction is free to leave rather than undermine it from within.

He maintained that the APC would not tolerate statements or actions considered harmful to its image or unity, adding that disciplinary measures could be invoked where necessary.

Basiru also accused Fayemi of engaging with opposition figures ahead of the 2027 elections, suggesting that his comments were part of broader political realignments.

He further alleged that such statements at a time when the party is preparing for the Ekiti governorship election were capable of weakening APC’s electoral strength.

The APC national secretary insisted that the party remains focused on its internal processes and preparations for upcoming elections and will not overlook conduct deemed anti-party activity.
