#JUST IN: Demise of Senator Ayogu Eze: Enugu Mourns Former Lawmaker

Headline.news reports that the former Senator who represented the Enugu North Senatorial district in the National Assembly, Senator Ayogu Eze, has passed away.

A reliable source informed headlinenews.news that Eze, who served in the National Assembly from 2007 to 2015, died on Thursday in an Abuja hospital at the age of 66 after battling a prolonged illness.

During his eight-year tenure in the Senate, Eze held the position of Committee Chairman on Information and Media for the initial four years. Following his reelection to the Senate in 2011, he was appointed as the chairman of the Committee on Works.

Eze also served as a member of various committees including Police Affairs, National Planning, Marine Transport, and Federal Character & Inter-Governmental Affairs. Additionally, he was a member of the Constitution Drafting and Amendment Committee, which introduced significant changes to Nigeria’s 1999 constitution.

Ikechukwu Eze, a youth leader from Senator Eze’s community, Umuiyida autonomous community in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, confirmed the news but declined to comment further due to shock over the sad news.

He remarked that Senator Eze’s passing is a significant loss to the zone and Nigeria as a whole. “We received the sorrowful news. We are currently mourning. His demise is a loss to us, the state, and Nigeria,” he expressed.

Born on November 23, 1958, Sen. Eze was elected Senator for the Enugu North Senatorial District of Enugu State, Nigeria, assuming office on June 5, 2007.
