The Nigerian military has recorded another breakthrough in its counter-insurgency campaign in the North-East, with senior commanders of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), alongside 76 fighters and members of their families, surrendering to troops of Operation Hadin Kai.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammad Goni.
According to the statement, the mass surrender followed sustained military offensives and continuous pressure on terrorist enclaves across the region, supported by credible and actionable intelligence.

Goni said the insurgents abandoned their hideouts and surrendered after prolonged military operations weakened their ability to continue fighting.
He described the development as another significant success in the ongoing campaign against Boko Haram and ISWAP, noting that several top terrorist leaders were among those who laid down their arms.

The military spokesman stated that the surrendered insurgents are currently being profiled and debriefed in a secure location in accordance with established operational procedures.
He revealed that within the past week alone, 76 terrorist foot soldiers, accompanied by some of their family members, voluntarily surrendered to military authorities.
According to Goni, the latest surrender demonstrates the effectiveness of Operation Hadin Kai’s sustained offensive, which has continued to dismantle terrorist strongholds, disrupt command structures and weaken logistics networks.

He added that persistent military operations have significantly degraded the combat capabilities of terrorist groups while reducing confidence among their fighters and leadership.
The military also credited the success to its counter-terrorism strategy, which combines intelligence-driven operations, precision strikes and close collaboration with other security agencies.

Goni reaffirmed the commitment of Operation Hadin Kai to sustaining military pressure on the remaining insurgents until they are either eliminated or compelled to surrender, with the ultimate goal of restoring lasting peace across the North-East.
