#JUSTIN: Minna Residents Stage Protest, Block Major Roads Over Soaring Living Costs

Major roads in the Minna metropolis, Niger State, were blocked as residents staged a protest against the high cost of living on Monday, February 5, 2024.

The demonstrators, including women and youths, were heard chanting protest songs while security agents, including policemen, observed the situation.

Protesters expressed frustration with the escalating cost of food items and criticized the government for not doing enough to address the situation, leading them to block major roads to make their grievances heard.

Addressing the protesters, the Deputy Governor of Niger State, Yakubu Garba, acknowledged the pain and hardship faced by families. He assured them that the government is actively working to reduce the cost of living and mitigate the consequences of the petrol subsidy removal.

In a related development, Leke Abejide, a member representing Yagba Federal Constituency of Kogi State in the National Assembly, called on Nigerians to bear with President Bola Tinubu’s administration for at least two years. He emphasized the need for patience to allow the policies to manifest and yield positive results.

Abejide made these statements during a grand reception in his honor organized by the Yoruba community in Kano State, where he was also conferred the title of Asiwaju of Yoruba Kano by Oba Yoruba of Kano, Dr. Murtala Otisese.

He expressed confidence in the transformative impact of Tinubu’s administration on the economy and encouraged people to endure the hardships for the sake of future positive outcomes. Abejide promised to complete the building of the Oba Yoruba of Kano’s palace and received praise for his contributions to the Yoruba community in Kano, particularly through empowerment programs for widows and orphans.
