At least 30 people have been confirmed dead following a deadly attack on Naridon Village in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The attack, which reportedly occurred on Sunday night, claimed the lives of several residents, including women and children, while numerous houses were set ablaze, leaving the community devastated.
Residents said dozens of bodies have so far been recovered, with fears that the death toll could increase as search and rescue operations continue in the affected area.
The assault also caused extensive destruction, with many homes completely destroyed by fire. Authorities are yet to confirm the number of people injured or displaced as assessments continue.
The latest incident adds to the growing security concerns across parts of Kaduna State and other regions of the country, where armed groups have continued to launch attacks, kidnappings and other violent crimes.
Community leaders and residents have appealed to both the Kaduna State Government and the Federal Government to strengthen security in the area by deploying additional personnel and taking decisive action to prevent further attacks.
The attack comes only days after reports that eight abducted residents from Ariko and Awon communities in Kachia Local Government Area died while in captivity.
Among the victims were seven residents kidnapped from Ariko village, while the eighth was a newborn baby delivered by a woman who was abducted from the neighbouring Awon community.
The deaths have renewed concerns over the persistent insecurity affecting communities in Southern Kaduna, where residents have endured repeated attacks over the years despite several security interventions.
Southern Kaduna has experienced recurring episodes of violence for decades, resulting in significant loss of lives and destruction of property. Successive attacks have continued to fuel calls for stronger security measures and lasting solutions to restore peace in the region.
