England captain Harry Kane admitted his disappointment after missing a late opportunity that could have secured victory for England in a goalless draw against Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Three Lions were frustrated by a disciplined Ghanaian side and failed to break the deadlock despite dominating possession for large periods of the Group L encounter. England’s best chance arrived late in the game when a header from Nico O’Reilly struck the crossbar, only for Kane to send the rebound over the bar from close range.
Reflecting on the result, Kane acknowledged that England lacked the cutting edge needed to convert their dominance into goals. He noted that matches against teams defending deep can be difficult, especially when an early goal fails to arrive,
and the opposition grows in confidence.
The Bayern Munich striker also accepted responsibility for the late miss, saying he would normally expect to score from such a position but recognised that such moments are part of a striker’s career.
Despite England’s attacking pressure, Ghana remained organised throughout the contest and posed occasional threats on the counterattack. The result leaves England top of Group L with four points, while Ghana boosted their hopes of reaching the knockout stage with a valuable draw.
England must now avoid defeat in their final group match against Panama to secure progression to the next round, while Ghana will face Croatia in a crucial encounter that could determine their fate in the tournament.
