The Kano State House of Assembly has fixed Monday for the screening of Murtala Garo following his nomination as Deputy Governor by Abba Yusuf.
The development was made public by the spokesperson to the Speaker, Kamaludden Shawai, who confirmed that the Assembly had received an official communication from the governor requesting Garo’s screening and confirmation.
According to the statement, lawmakers will assess the nominee as part of the constitutional process required before approval.
Governor Yusuf had earlier forwarded Garo’s name to the Assembly, citing constitutional provisions that empower him to nominate a deputy governor in the event of a vacancy. The request followed consultations with key stakeholders across the state.
The position became vacant after the resignation of former deputy governor Abdussalam Gwarzo in March 2026.
Garo is described as an experienced political figure with over two decades in public service. His past roles include serving as a local government chairman, commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, and holding key party positions at the state level.
