A tragic domestic violence incident in Kano State has left a woman and her two young children with severe burn injuries after her co-wife allegedly set them on fire during a dispute in the Hotoro area of Kano metropolis.

The incident reportedly occurred late Monday night at Mai Allo in Hotoro quarters, where residents were thrown into shock after hearing distress calls from the household.
According to reports, the suspect, identified as Maryam Muhammad, allegedly poured petrol on 28-year-old Firdausi Musa and her two children, Khadija Ya’u (7) and Ismail Ya’u (3), before setting them ablaze. The victims are currently receiving treatment at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital and the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, in Kano State.

The children’s father was also injured while attempting to rescue them from the fire and is said to be receiving medical attention for burns sustained during the incident.
Eyewitnesses and relatives described the situation as deeply distressing, noting that the attack happened in the middle of the night and drew immediate intervention from neighbours who rushed to the scene after hearing cries for help.

Family members alleged that tensions had been building between the co-wives prior to the attack, with claims of threats and intimidation reported before the situation escalated into violence.

The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The case has sparked renewed concern over rising domestic violence cases within households and the vulnerability of women and children in family disputes.
