KWANKWASIYYA MOVEMENT REACTS AS KWANKWASO ALLEGEDLY THREATENS TO LEAVE NDC

The Kwankwasiyya political movement has denied reports suggesting that former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is planning to exit the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) over disagreements linked to the party’s candidate selection process in Kano State.

The clarification comes after media reports alleged that Kwankwaso was considering leaving the party following the replacement of some candidates allegedly supported by his faction during the screening process.

The disputed changes were said to be part of an internal power-sharing arrangement between the Kwankwasiyya bloc and the existing party leadership in Kano, reportedly structured on a 60–40 allocation formula for party positions and electoral tickets.

Party insiders explained that the adjustments were aimed at maintaining balance within the party structure after concerns were raised over earlier nominations.

The development has highlighted ongoing tensions within the NDC in Kano State since Kwankwaso’s entry into the party earlier this year, with differing groups accusing each other of attempting to dominate the party structure.

However, speaking on the matter, Kwankwasiyya spokesperson Habeeb Saleh Mohammed dismissed the reports as unverified claims circulating on social media.

He insisted that the faction followed due process in conducting its primary elections in line with the timetable set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to him, the primaries were held on May 29 through a consensus-driven process that produced candidates for various positions without any reported disputes from participants.

He added that the list of candidates had already been submitted to the party leadership for further action, stressing that there was no internal discussion about Kwankwaso leaving the party.

Mohammed maintained that the reports were baseless and not reflective of the faction’s position.
