The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says its five-member Reconciliation Committee has begun efforts to restore unity within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The committee, chaired by retired Colonel AbdulWahab Lawal, commenced its assignment shortly after its inauguration at the APC state secretariat. Since then, members have held a series of consultations with party stakeholders and interest groups across Kwara State, with discussions described as peaceful and productive.

Speaking during the inauguration, Lawal appealed to aggrieved members to embrace dialogue and reconciliation, urging everyone to work together in resolving internal disagreements for the overall interest of the party.
He also cautioned members against making inflammatory remarks capable of escalating tensions, stressing that sacrifices and unity would be necessary for the APC to maintain its political strength in the state.
According to Lawal, the reconciliation committee was established to address disputes among party leaders and members before the 2027 elections. He expressed confidence that the committee would succeed in restoring peace, describing the disagreements as internal family matters since all parties involved remain committed to the APC.

The committee’s responsibilities include identifying the root causes of the disagreements, mediating between affected parties and recommending practical solutions to the state executive committee to strengthen unity within the party.
Lawal disclosed that the committee has already begun consultations across the state’s three senatorial districts, engaging party executives, aspirants, candidates, stakeholders and other interest groups. He added that members of the G15 group would also be consulted individually and collectively as part of the reconciliation process.
Other members of the committee include Dr. Oluwatoyin Opawoye, Engr. Musa Yeketi and ACG Ahmed Abbass.

Speaking on the progress of the assignment, Lawal said the committee had recorded encouraging results after meeting with House of Assembly aspirants, elders, local government executives and other party structures. He noted that the consultations reflected a shared commitment among stakeholders to preserve the unity of the APC in Kwara State.
He revealed that the committee has continued to brief the state party leadership on its activities and expressed appreciation for the support received throughout the reconciliation exercise.

To encourage peaceful dialogue, Lawal urged party members to stop making provocative public statements and advised that disciplinary suspensions imposed on members be temporarily suspended while reconciliation efforts continue.
He also commended party members for their cooperation and acknowledged contributions made through position papers and public submissions, which he said had strengthened the mediation process.
Lawal praised governorship aspirants Engr. Femi Sanni and Prof. Wale Suleiman for encouraging members to remain peaceful and support reconciliation. He also recognised the efforts of the APC Unity Group in Abuja for promoting dialogue and mobilising stakeholders.
The committee concluded by extending an invitation to members of the G15 group to participate in the ongoing peace talks, expressing optimism that lasting unity and harmony would be achieved within the party.
