AbdulRazaq Endorses Yahaya Seriki as Preferred Successor Ahead of Kwara APC Governorship Primary
Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has formally endorsed Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki as his preferred successor ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries scheduled for Thursday, May 21, 2026.
In a statement he personally signed on Tuesday, the governor said the decision followed wide consultations with party leaders and stakeholders across the state.
AbdulRazaq described Yahaya Seriki as “young, pro-people, astute and broad-minded,” adding that he possesses the experience and capacity required to lead Kwara State effectively.
According to him, Seriki has also built strong political goodwill and made significant investments across different parts of the state.
“I am pleased to endorse Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki (MFR) as my preferred successor under the platform of our party, the APC,” the governor said.

However, AbdulRazaq clarified that the endorsement does not shut the door on other aspirants, stressing that the party’s primary election will still hold as scheduled.
He urged party members and stakeholders to support Seriki in the interest of unity, stability, and continued progress within the APC in Kwara State.
The governor also acknowledged the contributions of other aspirants, noting that the endorsement should not be seen as a move to sideline or disrespect them.
The development is already generating political reactions within the state, as it comes amid rising tensions within the APC over succession politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
Political observers say the endorsement may further intensify internal party realignments, especially within the Kwara APC structure, where different interests have been quietly positioning ahead of the primaries.
The governorship primary election is expected to be one of the key political contests in the state’s ruling party this week.
