KWARA RACE HEATS UP: EX-APC CHAIRMAN JOINS GOVERNORSHIP BATTLE

Former Kwara State APC Chairman and former House of Representatives member, Bashir Bolarinwa, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State.

Bolarinwa made the declaration in Ilorin, the state capital, saying his decision was driven by a strong sense of responsibility rather than personal ambition.

According to him, Kwara needs focused leadership that can consolidate on existing progress while addressing lingering developmental gaps.

“This decision is not borne out of personal ambition alone, but from a clear conviction, a strong sense of duty, and a passionate desire to serve our people at a higher capacity,” he said.

He called on party leaders, stakeholders, and residents of the state to support his aspiration, stressing the need for unity and collective effort in building the future of Kwara.

“To the people of Kwara State, I offer myself for service—not as a mere promise-maker, but as a tested leader, a listener, and a doer,” he added.

Bolarinwa, who has served in various political positions from local government level to the National Assembly, said his experience over the years has prepared him for higher responsibility.

“My political journey has been one of service, sacrifice, and results… each step has prepared me for this moment,” he said.

In a related development, retired civil servant Hajia Yetunde Bello has also joined the 2027 governorship race.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin, Bello said her ambition is rooted in a desire to contribute to governance and further strengthen development efforts in the state.

She said her focus would be on consolidating the achievements of the current administration while expanding opportunities for women and young people.

“This will be prioritised, especially taking a cue from the giant strides of the present administration in this area,” she said.

Bello also commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration, describing its performance in education, infrastructure, health, and human capital development as significant and impactful.

She added that her government, if elected, would deepen inclusion and ensure greater participation of women and youth in leadership and governance.
