LPPC SUSPENDS MIKE OZEKHOME’S SAN PRIVILEGES PENDING INVESTIGATION

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has suspended the privileges attached to the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) rank held by prominent lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, pending the conclusion of investigations into allegations brought against him.

The decision was reportedly taken during a meeting of the LPPC, the body responsible for the conferment and regulation of the prestigious SAN title in Nigeria. The committee said the suspension is an interim measure aimed at preserving the integrity of the legal profession while relevant issues are being examined.

The development comes months after legal controversies involving Ozekhome, including allegations linked to a disputed property case in the United Kingdom. Earlier this year, criminal charges filed against him were withdrawn by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, with authorities stating that the matter required further review.

The SAN rank is regarded as the highest professional distinction for legal practitioners in Nigeria and is administered by the LPPC under the provisions of the Legal Practitioners Act. The committee has the authority to investigate complaints involving holders of the rank and, where necessary, impose disciplinary measures.

The LPPC has not announced a timeline for the completion of its investigation, while Ozekhome is expected to respond to the issues raised through the appropriate legal and professional channels.
