The Defence Intelligence College has introduced a Counter-Ambush Intelligence and Movement Security Course aimed at addressing the increasing threat of terrorist ambushes targeting military bases, convoys, patrol teams, and logistics operations across the country.

The training, organised in partnership with Renown Consult Limited, brought together personnel from the military and other security and intelligence agencies to strengthen their capacity to detect, prevent, and respond effectively to ambush situations.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Undiandeye, said intelligence remains central to national security operations, as it enables early threat detection, informed decision-making, and protection of national interests.

Represented by the Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence, Air Vice Marshal Bala Rabiu Mamman, he noted that Nigeria is facing complex security threats, including terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and organised crime networks that are increasingly adaptive in their tactics.
He expressed concern over the growing use of ambush attacks, describing them as a particularly deadly strategy used to inflict maximum damage on security personnel.

According to him, such attacks often exploit intelligence gaps, predictable movement patterns, and lapses in coordination among security agencies.
He explained that the new training programme focuses on intelligence-led detection, route analysis, convoy protection, and coordinated response strategies designed to reduce vulnerability and improve operational effectiveness.
The Defence Intelligence Chief stressed that the course places strong emphasis on prevention, inter-agency collaboration, and operational resilience in modern security environments.

He urged participants to apply the knowledge gained as force multipliers within their respective organisations and to demonstrate professionalism, discipline, and ethical conduct in their duties.
He also emphasized that maintaining public trust, accountability, and respect for the rule of law remains essential to effective security operations.
The Defence Intelligence College leadership was commended for initiating the programme, which is expected to enhance Nigeria’s overall security response capability.
