#Ministerial List: Mixed reactions greet Tinubu’s choice of Ministers

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday released the portfolio of Senate approved Ministerial list.

The list of 46 ministerial nominees which was forwarded to the President by the Senate after their confirmation contains Former Governors, Technocrats.

As expected, the appointments has caused mixed reactions on social media. While some applauded the President for his pick, others were critical of the appointments.

Nigerians React:

Yusuf Maitama Tuggar (born 12 March 1967) is a Nigerian politician and diplomat who since 2017 is the Nigerian Ambassador to Germany.

Our Minister of Foreign Affairs is a proper diplomat. 🔥 #BelieveInPBAT

Who said so? He is not a career diplomat so he is not competent to hold such a position, most especially with the present day demands in international Diplomacy & complex foreign relations!!!!!

The first time a GBAGYI man will be representing his people at the FEC.

This is President Tinubu’s style – listening and doing right by people.

#BelieveInPBAT

True. This decision is commendable. However, its important to assess his competent level for the job, rather than purely on ethnicity!!!!!

Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, an accomplished Nigerian lawyer who became a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) at record time of 10 years at the Bar.

He is Nigeria’s 24th Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice. #BelieveInPBAT

This is a good appointment no doubt. Fagbemi is by all standards an accomplished profession and has the clout, charisma, integrity, competence to handle the position.

Nigeria’s new Defence Minister governed one of the two states in the NW where there was no incident of terrorism and banditry for 8 years. BADARU, please come and do it for NIGERIA 🇳🇬

This is an appointment based on an excellent track record, so we must commend the decision. However, its important that the Hon. Minister carries the Nigerian Military & Security Agencies along. Fighting terrorism on a state level is quite different from tackling the hydraheaded monster on a National level. We are dealing with ISWAP, BH, Banditry and other groups who claim to have presence in 30 States of Nigeria. That requires more that a regional champion. Hope the Hon Minister knows he needs the collaboration & support of the Nigerian Military and should take some retired Generals to work with him!!!!!

The New Minister Of Finance And Coordinating Minister Of The Economy, Wale Edun.

Congratulations to Wale Edun who is the only person who has been given a portfolio even before the elections. Nigerians are not surprised, all we need to see is the visible impact of his theoretical finance prowess, and it must be people oriented. No need for much grammar. Hit the ground with workable fiscal policies which will have short term, medium & long term solutions. They must be people friendly policies. The government must have a humane face. That’s what democracy is all about! A lot is expected from Wale Edun, so best of luck. One advice from here: he must set up a platform to listen to people and not turn his back on advice- even a child could have some advice which will make a difference!!

A Kogi Man is Minister of Steel Development.

TINUBU, you do this one!

This Minister can change the fate of thousands of young and unemployed people in Kogi State.

What are the opportunities?

In the first three months of 2022, Africa’s Nigeria imported metals valued at N201.08bn.

A running Ajaokuta Steel Company can add $1.6bn annual income to the Nigerian economy and create over 500,000 estimated jobs.

#BelieveInPBAT

This appointment is strategic and well made. However, how competent, innovative, open minded and strategic is this Minister. Nigerians would like to see him extending a hand to Russia so they can reactivate Ajaokuta Steel Rolling Mill at no cost to the Federal Government with a mutually beneficial arrangement which will benefit Nigeria more! This is the challenge before him and we hope he will take a bold step and make it happen!

A proper educationist as an Education Minister.

Mr. Mamman is the current vice-chancellor of Baze University, Abuja.

A professor of law and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr Mamman is an educational administrator and was the director-general of the Nigerian Law School from 2005 to 2013. He is a member of the Body of Benchers. #BelieveInPBAT

This is a commendable appointment from President Tinubu. Many may not know Mr Mamman, but those who listened to his screening had the opportunity to have an idea of the calibre of man we now have in the educational sector. This is a good appointment and we hope the Hon Minister will live up to his reputation and scale bureaucratic hurdles & bottlenecks to rejig the ailing and archaic Nigerian education sector. So much needs to be done to reform the sector and we shall pray he passes the litmus test. We wish him the best and pray he Appoints members of the Academia as Pro- Chancellors in Universities and sets up a team of the academia to support him in this ardous task of reform.
Good luck!
