MIYETTI-ALLAH ASSOCIATION CONDEMNS PLATEAU KILLINGS, WARNS RELIGIOUS LEADERS AGAINST INCITING REMARKS

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has strongly condemned the recent deadly attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, describing it as a tragic reminder of the ongoing violence that has plagued the region for decades.

In a statement signed by its President, Baba Ngelzarma, MACBAN expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the families of the victims and residents affected by the assault.

“This tragic loss of lives is yet another painful reminder of the unending bloodshed that has plagued Plateau and must not continue,” Ngelzarma said. “No grievance—religious, ethnic, or political—justifies the taking of innocent lives.”

The association warned that the recurring cycle of violence in Plateau State has undermined peaceful coexistence and threatens national unity if urgent interventions are not made. Ngelzarma also criticised some religious leaders and social influencers for escalating tensions through inflammatory rhetoric rather than promoting peace.

“Words matter. In fragile environments like ours, they can either heal or destroy,” he added, calling on religious, traditional, and community leaders to exercise restraint, foster dialogue, and work actively to de-escalate tensions.

The MACBAN president urged security agencies to act professionally and swiftly to identify and prosecute the perpetrators. He emphasized the need to strengthen intelligence operations, increase security presence in vulnerable communities, and promote community-based peacebuilding initiatives to prevent further bloodshed.

“Nigeria cannot afford to normalise mass killings. The sanctity of human life must remain non-negotiable. The time for decisive action is now,” Ngelzarma stressed.

The condemnation follows the Palm Sunday attack in Angwan Rukuba, where gunmen killed several residents and left others injured. Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, described the attack as heinous and assured that security agencies had been directed to intensify operations and bring the perpetrators to justice. He reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
