The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned Nigerians about the circulation of unapproved and potentially dangerous toothpaste products falsely linked to the Colgate brand.
In a statement shared on its official X page, the agency said its Post-Marketing Surveillance team received a complaint about suspicious products being sold in Kaduna State, prompting an immediate investigation.

During inspection of a retail outlet, officials reportedly discovered two suspected counterfeit items labelled “Coglaet ActivGel 100g” and “Coglaet Herbal 100g.” According to NAFDAC, the shop owner claimed the products were supplied by a door-to-door sales agent but could not provide any purchase records.
NAFDAC noted that the products had not been registered or approved for sale in Nigeria, warning that they pose serious risks to public health due to lack of quality assurance.

The agency also identified additional variants, including “Coglaet Crema Dental Herbal 100g” and “Coglaet ActivGel 100g,” none of which carry batch numbers or NAFDAC registration codes. The products are reportedly linked to a manufacturer in Guangzhou, China, with labels showing production in August 2025 and expiry in August 2029.
Following the discovery, the agency said all zonal and state offices have been directed to intensify market surveillance and remove any remaining stock from circulation.
NAFDAC urged distributors, retailers, and consumers to be more vigilant when purchasing toothpaste and other regulated products, advising them to always check for proper registration details and packaging authenticity.
It also encouraged the public to report suspected fake or substandard products to its offices, hotline (0800-162-3322), or via its official email platform.
