National Patriots Commends Nigeria Police, Calls for Enhanced Funding and Counterterrorism Training as Gallant Officers Inspire Renewed Confidence

By Princess Gloria Fraser MFR.

The National Patriots Movement of Nigeria has commended the Nigeria Police Force for what it describes as a remarkable transformation in professionalism, proactive policing and intelligence-driven operations under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu.

According to the group, recent operations across the country have demonstrated that the Force is undergoing a rebirth driven by courage, integrity and operational efficiency, giving Nigerians renewed confidence in their foremost internal security institution.

The National Patriots noted that with a population exceeding 230 million, Nigeria remains one of the most under-policed countries in the world. The United Nations recommends a police-to-population ratio of one officer to 450 citizens, making the achievements and sacrifices of officers even more commendable.

The group cited the example of the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, psc, whose leadership style has earned admiration from residents of Abuja. Rather than operate solely from the comfort of his office, the gallant police chief reportedly carried his assault rifle and personally led his men into forests around the Federal Capital Territory in pursuit of kidnappers, demonstrating leadership by example and boosting the morale of officers under his command.

Similarly, the National Patriots praised the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Lagos, AIG Olohundare Jimoh, for his intelligence-driven operations that led to the dismantling of a major drug cartel. The group particularly commended his refusal of an alleged ₦500 million bribe reportedly offered to compromise investigations involving illicit drugs valued at over ₦7.5 billion.

“These officers represent the new face of policing in Nigeria—men of courage, integrity and professionalism. They have shown that the Nigeria Police Force is not lacking in intelligence or capacity but only requires greater support and investment,” the National Patriots stated.

Drawing comparisons with countries such as the United Kingdom, Singapore, Canada and Israel, the group noted that effective policing is sustained by heavy investments in welfare, training, mobility and technology.

Consequently, the National Patriots called on the Federal Government to ensure that appropriated funds for the Police are released fully and promptly. It also advocated improved salaries, better housing, insurance packages, logistics support and dedicated staff buses to reduce dependence on public transportation.

The group further renewed its proposal for the incorporation of modern counterterrorism and counter-insurgency training into the Police curriculum through strategic partnerships with credible international experts and institutions.

According to the National Patriots, the changing nature of insecurity demands a new generation of police officers equipped not only with conventional policing skills but also with specialized knowledge in intelligence gathering, tactical response, hostage rescue, urban warfare and asymmetric threats.

“The transformation Nigerians are witnessing within the Police Force must not stop here. It should be consolidated with modern counterterrorism capabilities to create a world-class police institution capable of confronting the evolving security challenges of the 21st century.”

A nation that expects its police officers to make the ultimate sacrifice must itself be willing to invest in their welfare, training and equipment. Security is not an expenditure; it is the insurance policy upon which peace, development and national prosperity are built.

The group therefore called on Nigerians to celebrate and encourage excellence in policing by forwarding reports, photographs and videos of outstanding officers and operations to Headlinenews.news through officecorrespondence2020@gmail.com for documentation and public recognition.

When courageous officers of integrity are supported by visionary leadership and adequate funding, criminals lose confidence and citizens regain hope.
