A political party, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has appointed former Ebonyi State Governor, Senator Sam Egwu, to head its screening committee ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party announced the decision in a statement issued by its National Secretary, Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, noting that the committee will oversee the screening of aspirants for presidential, governorship, senatorial, and House of Representatives positions.
According to the statement, the 17-member committee is scheduled for inauguration on May 19, 2026, at 4 pm. The panel will be responsible for vetting candidates seeking to contest under the party’s platform in the upcoming elections.

Senator Egwu, a former two-term governor and ex-lawmaker, will chair the committee, while the party’s National Legal Adviser, Reuben Egwuaba, will serve as secretary.

Other members include senior party figures and professionals drawn from different regions, selected to ensure a structured and transparent screening process.
The party said the move is part of broader preparations for the 2027 elections, as it continues to adopt internal strategies aimed at reducing disputes and strengthening unity during its primaries.
