The agency disclosed that the 83-year-old suspect, identified as Pa John Ofiel, was arrested during a raid in the Samek area of Aba, Abia State, after intelligence reports linked him to drug sales. Operatives reportedly recovered 700 grams of skunk packaged in small retail sachets. The suspect reportedly told investigators he previously worked as a shoemaker before entering the drug trade.

In Ekiti State, NDLEA officers also arrested 78-year-old Ogunjobi Samuel at his residence in Ilupeju-Ekiti, where about 350 grams of skunk were allegedly recovered.

The anti-drug agency further revealed that several other suspects were arrested across different states, including Oyo, Osun, Borno, Kaduna, Jigawa, Lagos, and Edo, during coordinated enforcement operations targeting cannabis, Tramadol, methamphetamine, and other illicit substances.

Among the major seizures recorded were 740 kilograms of skunk recovered during a raid at Awolowo Market in Mushin, Lagos, and tens of thousands of Tramadol capsules intercepted in northern states.

NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Buba Marwa praised officers involved in the operations and urged them to continue intensifying both enforcement activities and public sensitisation campaigns under the agency’s War Against Drug Abuse initiative.
