The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has foiled an attempt to smuggle tramadol pills to the United Kingdom after discovering the illicit drugs hidden inside containers of black soap.
The seizure was disclosed on Sunday by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, in a narcotics trend update shared on his official X account.
According to Babafemi, NDLEA operatives uncovered the concealed drugs during a routine interdiction operation in Lagos.
He used the incident to renew the agency’s warning to members of the public against accepting parcels or luggage from other people without first confirming their contents.
Babafemi explained that unsuspecting individuals could unknowingly become involved in drug trafficking, stressing that the latest interception highlights the risks associated with carrying items on behalf of others.
The NDLEA said its officers successfully detected the tramadol pills despite the sophisticated concealment method, preventing the illegal shipment from reaching the United Kingdom.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying efforts against drug trafficking and urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement authorities.
