Three soldiers lost their lives in a suspected ambush by a militia group in the Katakpa community of Toto local government area in Nasarawa State.
The ambush, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon, also claimed the lives of two members of a vigilante group.
The soldiers and vigilante members were reportedly on a peace mission to a troubled area of the state when they were attacked by gunmen.
The chairman of Toto local government area, Abdullahi Aliyu Tashas, confirmed the attack, stating that the soldiers were deployed to maintain peace following attacks by the militia group.
He alleged that the same Bassa militia ambushed and killed three soldiers during a patrol.
The corpses have been recovered and handed over to military authorities.
This incident follows a similar attack on the community a week ago, where armed men killed three people and caused extensive property damage.
The Nasarawa State government is reportedly addressing the situation to restore normalcy in the area.
