#NewsUpdate: United Nigeria Airline’s Suspension Lifted by NCAA After Asaba Flight Incident

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has rescinded the suspension imposed on United Nigeria Airlines’ Part G Operation Specifications. This decision follows the airline’s suspension, specifically concerning its two wet lease aircraft, after a flight bound for Abuja was diverted to Asaba last Sunday.

As reported by Headline News, the investigation into the incident revealed a lack of “adequate liaison” between the lessor’s Operation Control Centre (OCC) and the lessee’s OCC, which also omitted appropriate flight briefings from the point of departure. In a letter referencing NCAA/DOLT/UNA/Vol.02523 and signed by Capt. Ibrahim Dambazau, the Director of Operations, Licensing, and Training, the NCAA announced the lifting of the suspension.

The letter stated, “Further to the recommended amended procedures in your aircraft Part G Operations, the Authority hereby lifts the suspension of your Part G Operations Specifications. Note: You are also required to comply with the Nigeria Civil Aviation All Operators letter (DG 15/2023) referenced NCAA/DGCA/AIR/11/16/347, a copy attached with this letter.”

The NCAA recommended that approved flight programs sent to the lessor, along with necessary briefings, should be conducted with a dispatcher of the lessee in attendance. Other recommendations include holding appropriate briefings by both cockpit and cabin crew before flight, strict adherence to flight following procedures, and handing all copies of filed flight plans to the cockpit crew via the lessee’s OCC.

United Nigeria Airlines confirmed the lifting of the suspension on Friday and issued an apology to passengers for the disruption of its schedule. The airline expressed gratitude to passengers for their understanding during the suspension, emphasizing its commitment to safety as a priority. The statement acknowledged the inconvenience caused and reassured passengers that the dedicated team is working to resolve the backlog of flight schedules promptly.
