NIGERIAN AIR FORCE CLARIFIES REPORTS ON AIRCRAFT ‘DETENTION’ IN BURKINA FASO

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has clarified reports suggesting that one of its aircraft was detained in Burkina Faso.

Earlier online reports claimed that Nigerian aircraft and crew members were held by Burkina Faso authorities for allegedly violating the country’s airspace.

In a statement released on December 9, 2025, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, explained the situation.

The statement read:

SAFE PRECAUTIONARY LANDING OF NAF C-130 AIRCRAFT IN BURKINA FASO

The Nigerian Air Force confirmed that a C-130 aircraft, on its way to Portugal on December 8, 2025, made a precautionary landing in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, after the crew noticed a technical issue shortly after taking off from Lagos. The landing followed standard safety protocols and international aviation regulations.

Ejodame assured that the crew is safe and received cordial treatment from the Burkina Faso authorities.

The NAF also stated that plans are in place to resume the mission as scheduled. The service emphasized its commitment to operational discipline and safety, ensuring the well-being of personnel while carrying out its constitutional responsibilities.
