#Nigerian Cleric Laments, Says Politicians Have Stopped Calling Him For Prayers After Elections

An Islamic cleric has reportedly lamented that politicians have stopped flocking to his place for prayers since the conclusion of the 2023 general elections.

Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central senator in the Eight National Assembly, revealed this on his Twitter handle.

According to Sani, the unnamed Islamic cleric said politicians had stopped calling him for prayers.

During elections in Nigeria, politicians are usually seen in churches and mosques than usual. While many are said to go seek spiritual support, many others go to canvass support taking advantage of the role religion affiliations played in the country’s politics.

Sani in a tweet wrote: “Today our Friday Mosque Imam complained that most of those who came to him for prayers and won their elections have stopped picking his calls, And those who lost have stopped sending their financial contributions.”

In another report, Sani advised Peter Obi, the Labour Party, LP, candidate in the February 25 presidential election, to stop apologizing for the actions of his supporters.

Sani warned that Obi might kill what he described as the “libido of his movement”, if he continues to denounce or apologize on their behalf.
