A group of unidentified individuals has fatally attacked Dr. Kamar Abdulkadir, a lecturer from the Department of Physical Health Education at the University of Maiduguri in Borno State. The incident was brought to light by renowned counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in Lake Chad, Zagazola Makama, in a tweet. According to Makama’s account, Abdulkadir was brutally killed on March 31st when the assailants clandestinely entered his office, where they proceeded to fatally stab him and inflict multiple hammer blows. His lifeless body was discovered in a pool of blood, bearing severe injuries inflicted by the perpetrators. Makama disclosed that the lecturer’s hands were mutilated as he struggled against the attackers, who also used a hammer to crush his skull and spinal cord, resulting in immediate death. The assailants absconded with his vehicle and other belongings as investigations continue to locate them.

At the time of reporting, neither the Borno State Police Command nor the university administration had issued statements regarding the tragedy. Additionally, the Nigerian Army has conducted coordinated operations in Katsina and Zamfara states, resulting in the elimination of a substantial number of terrorists. According to an official communication from the Nigerian Army’s verified ‘X’ handle (formerly Twitter), the military operations took place on March 29th and 30th.

In Zamfara State, the troops raided the hideout of notorious terrorist leader Hassan Yantagwaye in Tsafe Local Government Area, neutralizing three terrorists, recovering a significant amount of arms and ammunition, and dismantling their camps. Another operation conducted in Katsina State on March 30th led to the elimination of eight terrorists in Faskari Local Government Area. The soldiers confiscated locally-made weapons, military attire, and stolen grains during this operation. Moreover, troops intercepted 441 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa in Ogun State, which will be handed over to the appropriate authorities after initial investigations.

Furthermore, the army reported an encounter with armed Effium militias in Ebonyi State during night patrols on March 31st, resulting in the capture of one militia member along with the confiscation of an AK-47 rifle and ammunition. The captured individual is undergoing preliminary questioning as the army remains dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of the nation by combatting terrorism and insurgency.
