Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has held talks with United States Vice President J.D. Vance and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on strengthening counterterrorism cooperation in West Africa.
The meeting focused on deepening security collaboration between Nigeria and the United States as both countries continue efforts to combat terrorism and rising extremist threats across the region.
According to a post shared by Secure Nigeria on X, the engagement reaffirmed the strategic partnership between both nations in addressing insurgency and regional insecurity. The platform noted that President Bola Tinubu values the continued intelligence sharing, training, and security support being provided by the United States under President Donald Trump.
The statement added that Nigerian security forces are intensifying operations against terrorist organisations such as ISIS and Boko Haram while working to protect vulnerable communities and strengthen stability across the Sahel region.
It also stressed that Nigeria remains one of the United States’ key security partners in Africa, with both countries committed to expanding cooperation in tackling terrorism and improving regional security.
The latest meeting follows previous high-level engagements between Nigerian and US officials. In late 2025, Ribadu led a delegation of senior Nigerian government officials to Washington, DC, for discussions with American authorities on security and intelligence matters.
He also hosted a delegation from the United States Congress in Abuja in December 2025. The delegation included lawmakers Mario Díaz-Balart, Norma Torres, Scott Franklin, Juan Ciscomani, and Riley Moore.
