Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has brushed aside criticism directed at his administration on social media following his victory in the recently concluded governorship election, maintaining that online discussions do not determine election results.

Speaking after securing re-election in the June 20 governorship poll, Oyebanji told supporters that electoral success is decided by voters at polling units rather than by opinions expressed on digital platforms. He stressed that effective governance and meaningful engagement with residents are what ultimately earn public support.
According to the governor, politicians who have delivered on their promises can confidently rely on the electorate, while those lacking achievements often turn to social media campaigns and public criticism to gain attention.

He argued that grassroots connection remains more important than online influence, noting that citizens are more likely to reward leaders who have positively impacted their lives.
Oyebanji described his victory as proof that performance outweighs online narratives, adding that the election outcome reflected the judgment of the people.

The governor achieved a decisive win across all 16 local government areas of Ekiti State. Official results showed that he secured 319,224 votes, far ahead of his closest challenger, Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 40,543 votes. Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished third with 12,872 votes.
The final results were announced at the state collation centre in Ado-Ekiti.
Oyebanji, who first assumed office in 2022, will now serve another four-year term following his re-election victory.
