The North West Development Commission (NWDC) has disclosed that it received ₦15.17 billion in federal allocations between January and May 2026 and has begun implementing development programmes across the seven North-West states.
The Commission’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Shehu Abdullahi Ma’aji, revealed this on Sunday while presenting the NWDC’s mid-year performance report to the Senate Committee overseeing the Commission.

According to Ma’aji, the Commission has introduced several initiatives aimed at improving agriculture, healthcare, education, youth empowerment, and security in the region.
He explained that one of the key programmes will provide 30,000 farmers with farming inputs, mechanisation support, and improved access to markets to boost agricultural productivity.
The Commission also plans to empower 10,000 young people through vocational training, entrepreneurship support, grants, and employment opportunities.

Ma’aji added that the interventions include the rehabilitation of primary healthcare centres, the renovation of schools, and support for security agencies in tackling banditry and other security threats affecting the North-West.

He assured lawmakers that the allocated funds would be managed responsibly and used in line with the Commission’s mandate to promote development, reduce poverty, and improve the living conditions of residents in the region.
Members of the Senate Committee commended the Commission for the early implementation of its programmes and advised it to ensure that projects are distributed fairly across all seven North-West states.
