A senior source within the commission said Okowa’s visit may be connected to an ongoing investigation into alleged abuse of office and financial misconduct during his time as governor of Delta State.

The former governor has been under investigation over allegations linked to the alleged diversion of funds amounting to about ₦1.3 trillion from the 13 per cent derivation allocation to Delta State between 2015 and 2023.

He was previously arrested on November 4, 2024, and interrogated at the EFCC Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate as part of the probe.

According to the source, Okowa’s recent visit to the Lagos office may be related to efforts to secure the release of his international passport to facilitate travel abroad for medical treatment.

However, it was not confirmed whether the anti-graft agency approved the request or released his travel documents at the time of reporting.

Attempts to obtain an official response from the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, were unsuccessful.
